U.S. stocks traded mixed this morning, with the Dow Jones index gaining around 0.1% on Thursday.
Following the market opening Thursday, the Dow traded up 0.05% to 49,042.28 while the NASDAQ fell 0.34% to 23,776.71. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.01% to 6,978.03.

Leading and Lagging Sectors
Communication services shares gained by 2.5% on Thursday.
In trading on Thursday, information technology stocks fell by 1.7%.
Top Headline
On Wednesday, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) posted better-than-expected results for the fourth quarter and announced plans to invest approximately $2 billion into CEO Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup, xAI.
Tesla said preparations are underway in North America for production ramps of Tesla Semi and CyberCab, both set to commence in the first half of 2026. The company also plans to unveil the Gen 3 version of Optimus in the first quarter of this year.
Equities Trading UP
- TEN Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:XHLD) shares shot up 63% to $4.16.
- Shares of TRX Gold Corp (NYSE:TRX) got a boost, surging 35% to $2.60.
- Austin Gold Corp (NYSE:AUST) shares were also up, gaining 24% to $3.19.
Equities Trading DOWN
- Fractyl Health Inc (NASDAQ:GUTS) shares dropped 67% to $0.60. The company announced six-month randomized results from the ongoing REMAIN-1 Midpoint Cohort.
- Shares of Masonglory Ltd (NASDAQ:MSGY) were down 45% to $1.13.
- Tian Ruixiang Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:TIRX) was down, falling 38% to $0.82. TIAN RUIXIANG shares jumped 311% on Wednesday after the company announced it entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with SwiftStart.
Commodities
In commodity news, oil traded up 4.9% to $66.29 while gold traded up 5.2% at $5,578.80.
Silver traded up 6.3% to $120.735 on Thursday, while copper rose 10.8% to $6.5645.
Euro zone
European shares were mostly higher today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 gained 0.8%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 1.2%. London's FTSE 100 rose 1.1%, Germany's DAX fell 0.9% and France's CAC 40 gained 0.9% during the session.
Asia Pacific Markets
Asian markets closed higher on Thursday, with Japan's Nikkei gaining 0.03%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gaining 0.51%, China's Shanghai Composite rising 0.16% and India's BSE Sensex gaining 0.27%.
Economics
- U.S. initial jobless claims fell by 1,000 to 209,000 from the revised reading in the previous week, compared to market estimates of 205,000.
- The trade deficit rose sharply to $56.8 billion in November, from a $29.2 billion gap in the previous month.
- Nonfarm business sector labor productivity rose by 4.9% in the third quarter, versus a 4.1% growth in the prior quarter.
- Unit labor costs in the nonfarm business sector fell by 1.9% in the third quarter, following a 2.9% decline in the previous quarter.
