Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has slammed the President Donald Trump administration as fuel prices at the pump continue to surge amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Adam Schiff Criticizes Donald Trump
In a post on the social media platform X, Schiff delivered sharp criticism of Trump, making note of the current gas prices in the U.S. as well as the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at security checkpoints across airports.
“Paying $5/gallon for gas to drive to an airport where you’ll wait 4 hours to get monitored by untrained ICE agents,” Schiff said, “as thousands of American troops prepare to deploy to the Middle East to fight a needless war,” he added. “Another day in Donald Trump’s America,” he concluded.
It’s worth noting that while the national average price for a gallon of gasoline neared the $4 mark on Monday, a gallon of gas at the pump cost over $5.7 in California, outlining a steep rise in fuel prices, which has invited criticism from leaders like Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass), who noted that gas prices were up 27% in a month.
Gavin Newsom Slams Trump
Schiff’s fellow Democrat and California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) also delivered sharp criticism of Trump as lines at the airport last for hours, calling him “incompetent” for deploying ICE agents at airports. He also criticized several GOP lawmakers, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), for blocking a funding bill for the DHS.
ICE agents have already attracted criticism from people after a video surfaced of the agency’s officials handling a purported undocumented individual at the San Francisco Airport. Sen. Scott Wiener (D-CA) shared the video, criticizing the agents for “terrorizing a mother while her daughter watched.” He then demanded that ICE be out of California.
DoorDash Introduces Relief Program Amid Iran War
Combating the surging fuel costs, food delivery platform DoorDash Inc. (NASDAQ:DASH) has unveiled an emergency relief program, which would offer a 10% cashback at any time with a DoorDash Crimson Visa Debit Card, as well as weekly payments ranging from $5 to $15 for drivers driving at least 125 miles on the platform.
Elsewhere, drivers on the Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE:UBER) and Lyft Inc. (NASDAQ:LYFT) platforms driving Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles shared that they were prioritizing profitable trips to hedge earnings, even if the trip required driving to unsafe areas, as EV owners reported increased business.
Iran War Escalates
President Donald Trump had earlier issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to open up the Strait, and shared that talks were progressing well with Iranian authorities, which the latter have denied.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared that Trump was optimistic that the U.S. and Israel could secure a joint agreement with Iran. On the other hand, Iranian missiles hit Tel Aviv. Israel has also said that it has hit two IRGC intelligence sites, according to a report by Al Jazeera on Tuesday.
