Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) said on Wednesday that it has rolled out a major private-label packaging update that keeps the focus on value.
Walmart announced a comprehensive redesign of Great Value, its largest private brand and the largest food and consumables consumer packaged goods brand in the U.S., marking the first full refresh in more than a decade.
The redesign spans nearly 10,000 food and consumables items and is built to improve "shoppability" across stores and digital platforms while keeping the same products at Every Day Low Prices.
The company also reiterated its longer-term private-brand roadmap, including a goal announced last fall to remove synthetic dyes from its private-brand food products by January 2027.
Walmart said Great Value is in nine out of 10 U.S. households and that it saves an average family 35% per year.
Technical Analysis
Walmart is still holding a constructive longer-term uptrend while digesting a post-February pullback from its 52-week high. The stock is trading 0.8% above its 20-day simple moving average (SMA) and 4.3% above its 100-day SMA, which leans toward steady intermediate demand even as the near-term trend chops around.
The moving average stack is sending mixed signals: the 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA (a bearish short-term crossover), but the 50-day SMA remains above the 200-day SMA (a bullish long-term backdrop). That combination often aligns with "pause and consolidate" price action rather than a clear trend in either direction.
The moving average convergence divergence (MACD), a trend/momentum indicator, is above its signal line with a positive histogram, suggesting improving upside momentum following the prior downswing. When the MACD stays above the signal line, it typically means buyers are regaining control, even if the tape remains noisy.
Over the past 12 months, the stock has been up 33.07%, and it's sitting below the $134.69 52-week high set in February but well above the $90.61 low. That positioning suggests the longer-term trend has been strong, with the current range acting more like a reset than a breakdown.
- Key Resistance: $127.00 — a level where rallies have recently stalled.
- Key Support: $121.50 — an area where buyers have tended to show up.
