WWDC 2026 Reveals New Software And A Historic Farewell
Apple launched WWDC 2026 on Monday with a keynote from Apple Park, offering the first detailed look at the software updates coming to millions of iPhones, Macs and Apple Watches later this year, CNET reported. The company previewed new versions of iOS, iPadOS, MacOS and WatchOS, with developer betas expected immediately and public betas likely arriving in July.
The event also hinted at what may be coming for the next hardware cycle, including the iPhone 18 and the rumored iPhone Fold. Apple confirmed deeper integration of Google's Gemini models into Siri and broader upgrades to Apple Intelligence.
The keynote ended with a milestone moment. Tim Cook closed WWDC for the final time before stepping down in September, revisiting the event's biggest announcements and giving one last wave. Incoming CEO John Ternus did not appear during the stream, even though he will take over leadership later this year.
Siri AI, Apple Intelligence And New AI Tools Take Center Stage
Siri dominated the event. Apple introduced a dramatically improved assistant on Apple Watch, capable of handling AI‑powered tasks that previously required scrolling through links. Siri AI can summarize answers, interpret what the camera is pointed at and respond more naturally across devices. Visual Intelligence extends these abilities further, offering Google Lens‑style recognition on iPhone, Mac and Vision Pro. In one demo, Siri identified a backpack, checked flight details and confirmed whether it could be used as a carry‑on.
Apple Intelligence also expanded across core apps. Safari will automatically group tabs by topic and can generate browser extensions from a simple prompt. The system can identify compromised passwords and suggest stronger replacements. Siri can draft emails, messages and longer pieces of writing, reflecting a user's tone and offering feedback on selected text. Some features, including image generation, will have daily usage limits unless users subscribe to certain iCloud Plus plans.
Apple also introduced Spatial Reframing, an AI‑driven photo tool that can reposition subjects in a hyperrealistic 3D space. The demo showed children being moved within a scene with a single swipe, creating a new composition that looked naturally captured.
Child safety tools expanded as well. Apple will now block violent and graphic content, offer daily time allowance recommendations for entertainment and social media and give parents more control over websites their children visit.
