Elon Musk, best known as the CEO of Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) and SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX), celebrated his 55th birthday Sunday with public wishes from family members, investors, political figures and entertainers who framed him as a son, entrepreneur and free-speech champion.
Family Tributes Lead Musk’s Birthday Celebrations Online
Musk, who was born June 28, 1971, in South Africa, marked the milestone weeks after SpaceX’s record public listing turned the rocket and satellite company into one of Wall Street’s most closely watched names, and made him the world’s first trillionaire.
His mother, Maye Musk, led the family tributes. "Happy birthday to my wonderful son. @elonmusk has given me 55 years of joy," she wrote on X. "It’s so much fun to celebrate with family and friends. His cake is a rocket and a moon base."
His sister, Tosca Musk, kept her message short, writing, "Happy Birthday, E! Love you so much!"
Investors Highlight Musk’s Future-Focused Birthday Wish
ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood, a long-time Tesla bull, also wished both mother and son well. "Happy birth day, @mayemusk, and happy birthday, Elon!" she wrote.
Boom Supersonic CEO Blake Scholl offered a sharper prompt, writing, "Happy birthday @elonmusk. Make a good wish." Musk replied, "I wished for a bright future for all mankind."
That answer fits Musk’s recent public framing of his work around civilization-scale stakes. Musk has repeatedly warned about falling birth rates and recently said "nothing else matters if civilization falls," a phrase he offered as part of his explanation for staying active in cultural and political fights.
Supporters Credit Musk With Defending Free Speech
Rapper Nicki Minaj praised Musk’s stewardship of X. "Thank you for saving free speech, Elon. Happy Birthday," she wrote, signing off from "Gag City & the Barbz."
Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini credited Musk’s work across Neuralink, Starlink, reusable rockets, birth rates and freedom of expression, writing, "For this and much more, happy birthday, Elon, 100 of these days."
Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) echoed the free-speech theme, writing, "Happy birthday, @elonmusk Thanks for saving free speech." Musk and Lee have previously aligned on First Amendment fights, including criticism of a New York Times op-ed that Musk said attacked free speech.
