The recent IPO of SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX) and the continued success of Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) stock have made Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire. While he is no longer a trillionaire, a wealth of $947 billion is so large that many could only dream of ever being so rich.
Here’s a look at how Musk’s wealth compares to the annual salary of one of the top jobs in America, the president of the United States.
President Salary vs. Elon Musk Net Worth
Musk’s net worth is so large that sometimes crazy comparisons like him being able to buy every MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL team combined have to be used to put the large amounts into perspective.
Bloomberg currently ranks Musk first with a wealth of $947 billion, with a gain of $328 billion in 2026, thanks in large part to SpaceX.
Musk has largely taken minimal salaries from Tesla and SpaceX over the years, instead being paid through option packages structured around meeting certain milestones and requirements.
Meanwhile, the president of the United States is paid $400,000 a year. While this is significantly more than many Americans make, it may also be viewed as low-end given the huge responsibilities that come with the role.
A person serving as president would likely need to have other investments or side jobs to come anywhere near Musk’s net worth someday.
Based on Musk’s current wealth of $947 billion, a person would have to serve as president for 2,367,500 years, earning $400,000 annually, to tie the Tesla and SpaceX CEO.
There are, of course, multiple problems with this equation. One being that you can only serve as American president for two terms, thanks to the 22nd Amendment, and another being that the oldest living person on record lived to be 122 years old.
For now, people can only dream of being as rich as Musk is or hope that their investments or entrepreneurial efforts will someday take them to those same heights.
