The U.S. electric vehicle (EV) Average Transaction Price (ATP) declined 4.5% in June, despite the absence of Federal incentives for all-electric vehicles amid President Donald Trump‘s anti-EV stance.
Subcompact SUV Sales Surged 23%
In a report released by Kelley Blue Book on Monday, the ATP for vehicles in the U.S. during June increased less than 1% year over year to $49,758. The subcompact SUV segment, with an ATP of $31,113, jumped 23% YoY in June, while small and medium-sized pickup truck sales surged more than 12%, the report said.
Consumer incentives recorded a marginal increase during June. “Incentive spending in June was 7% of ATP, up from 6.9% in June 2025 and down from 7.1% in May,” the report said. The ATP for EVs in June was $56,238, declining for the sixth consecutive month, the report said.
Tesla Reports Price Decline
Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) reported an ATP of $53,107, which was up 0.7% from May’s $52,760, but down 2.1% YoY from June 2025’s $54,273. The report said that Model 3 prices were moderately increased, but did not give an exact figure for the EV sedan.
“Model Y prices were lower by 2.7%, at $51,775,” the report said, adding that the SUV accounted for “more than 35%” of the cumulative EV sales. “Initial estimates suggest EV sales declined month over month in June, after a strong May performance,” the report said.
Trump’s Anti-EV Stance, Gavin Newsom’s EV Rebate
According to the BlueGreen Alliance, which is a non-profit based in Minneapolis, the Trump administration’s pro-fossil fuel stance caused a nearly $83 billion loss for the clean energy, manufacturing and industrial sector in the U.S. amid rollbacks to the former President Joe Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act, as well as the rescinding of offshore wind leases.
The rolling back of the $7,500 Federal EV Credit also negatively impacted clean energy mobility, with manufacturers like General Motors Co. (NYSE:GM) and others scaling down electric vehicle development efforts.
Meanwhile, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) announced a new statewide EV rebate program, offering $3,500 off on new EVs for all first-time buyers in the state and $1,750 off on used EVs for first-time buyers. Newsom has touted the move as pushing back against Trump’s anti-EV stance.
