United Airlines Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:UAL) has introduced a new Economy seating option on its fleet of Airbus SE (OTC:EADSF) (OTC:EADSY) A321XLR aircraft that replaces the Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA) 757 aircraft.

United Touts Extra Elbow Room

In an official statement released on Tuesday, United unveiled its new Economy Plus seats on its incoming fleet of 50 Airbus A321XLR aircraft that would feature an open middle seat transformed into a shared table.

The custom-designed, permanently fixed table will stretch from armrest to armrest over the vacant middle seats, aimed at increasing elbow room for passengers. The upgrade comes in addition to the three extra inches of legroom already designated for the Economy Plus cabin, the airline said.

United’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Nocella emphasized the airline’s “nose-to-tail” investment strategy, noting that the initiative gives customers more “choice and value in every cabin,” the statement said.

Domestic flights with this aircraft are commencing this fall, the company said, while international flights are scheduled to commence by early 2027. The flights will continue offering five attendants, the airline said.
