Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) stock rose nearly 4% in Monday’s premarket session as investors returned to high-growth semiconductor stocks amid a broader risk-on move. Nasdaq futures climbed 0.60%, while S&P 500 futures gained 0.27%.
Recently, Alger executive vice president Ankur Crawford said the company’s earnings power is "underappreciated," arguing Micron could generate cash flow equal to roughly 30% of its current market cap over the next 18 months and as much as 50% over a longer period.
Micron’s early gains came as traders rotated back into semiconductor stocks after recent weakness. The stock is attempting to stabilize following a pullback from its June peak while remaining in a strong longer-term uptrend.
The broader market backdrop also supported the move. Stronger index futures typically benefit higher-beta technology names, and Micron has been one of the sector’s biggest winners over the past year.
Technical Analysis
Micron remains in a long-term uptrend despite losing some near-term momentum.
The stock is trading 14% below its 20-day simple moving average and 5.7% below its 50-day SMA. However, it remains 28.8% above its 100-day SMA and 82.2% above its 200-day SMA, suggesting the broader bullish trend remains intact.
The moving-average setup also remains constructive, with the 20-day SMA above the 50-day SMA and the 50-day SMA above the 200-day SMA.
Momentum has weakened in recent weeks. The moving average convergence divergence (MACD) indicator remains below its signal line, indicating bullish momentum has cooled and buyers may need a fresh catalyst to regain control.
A key support level to watch is around $854.50, where buyers previously stepped in.
