French transport regulators are signaling Tesla’s (TSLA) Full Self-Driving can’t be authorized in its current form, as France coordinates with European counterparts and the company on changes needed to meet safety expectations.
France’s Minister of Transportation said the system’s safety trade-offs are not sufficient to approve it as it currently stands and stressed it is not a self-driving system, citing concerns that it allows for speeding and that available data does not show it guarantees optimal driver attention in urban settings and during complex maneuvers like lane changes, intersections or roundabouts; the minister said technical discussions are continuing with the Netherlands, other European states and Tesla, and that a French transport ministry representative traveled to the Netherlands last week.

Early FSD Data
Tesla Inc. released early European data in June showing its supervised Full Self-Driving had 3.5× fewer collisions than human drivers in the Netherlands, with zero crashes over 16.6 million highway kilometers. The data comes from Tesla’s own telemetry after Dutch approval in April and lacks third-party verification.
