Cathie Wood is doubling down on disruptive technology, but not where many investors might expect.
ARK Invest’s latest daily trading report shows the firm’s biggest move on Wednesday was the purchase of 121,384 shares of Space Exploration Technologies Corp(NASDAQ:SPCX) worth $15 million, while simultaneously trimming 97,325 shares of Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ:HOOD) valued at $10.35 million. The transactions extend a recent pattern of buying SpaceX on weakness while taking profits in Robinhood after its strong run this year.
The trades suggest ARK is rotating capital from a high-flying fintech winner into higher-conviction “moonshot” themes spanning commercial space, advanced air mobility and frontier healthcare.
Where ARK Is Putting Fresh Money And Where It’s Selling
Beyond SpaceX, ARK also bought 940,434 shares of Archer Aviation Inc (NYSE:ACHR) worth $4.97 million across flagship ETFs, which include ARK Innovation ETF (BATS:ARKK), ARK Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETF (BATS:ARKQ) and ARK Space & Defense Innovation ETF (BATS:ARKX), reinforcing its bet on the eVTOL industry.
ARK also added 42,091 shares of Compass Pathways (NASDAQ:CMPS) worth $513,000 through ARK Genomic Revolution ETF (BATS:ARKG), continuing its accumulation of the mental health biotech company.
Alongside Robinhood, the firm also sold 40,062 shares of Iridium Communications Inc (NASDAQ:IRDM) worth $1.89 million, continuing to pare its satellite communications exposure.
3 Themes Dominating ARK’s Actively Managed ETFs
- Space economy: SpaceX remains one of ARK’s highest-conviction holdings, with the firm repeatedly adding shares following the company’s post-IPO pullback. Wood believes that SpaceX, despite the slide, has the potential to become "the most important company in global history." Reports indicate ARK has invested more than $475 million in SpaceX since its June listing and has yet to sell shares from its public ETFs.
- Autonomous mobility: The sizable Archer Aviation purchase signals continued confidence in next-generation transportation.
- Frontier healthcare: Additional buying in Compass Pathways underscores ARK’s long-term conviction in innovative biotech.
The rotation also highlights ARK’s willingness to lock in gains from outperformers like Robinhood and redeploy capital into sectors where it sees greater long-term upside. This is a strategy that continues to shape flagship funds, including ARKK, ARKQ, ARKX and ARKG.
