Blue Owl Capital Inc. (NYSE:OWL) has hired Takeo Ikemori to run its institutional capital effort in Japan, adding a senior fundraising and solutions executive as it pushes deeper into the country.
The firm said Ikemori will help oversee the Tokyo operation alongside Yoichi Nakamura, who leads the company’s Japan private wealth business. Ikemori is joining as a managing director, representative in Japan, and head of Japan institutional capital, based in Tokyo. He will report to Michael Dale, who runs Asia institutional capital for Blue Owl.
Before joining Blue Owl, Ikemori worked at Natixis Japan Securities as managing director and head of financial institutions group coverage in Japan. In that role, he focused on expanding ties with major clients and coordinating across product groups to deliver the firm’s capabilities to banks, insurers, and asset managers.
Ikemori previously spent 16 years at Barclays, holding senior posts that included leading Japan rates sales and co-leading cross-asset solution sales in the country, according to Blueowl.
Michael Dale, Managing Director and Head of Institutional Capital, Asia at Blue Owl, said: "Japan’s institutional market is one of the most significant in the world and is built on trust and the ability to deliver tailored solutions. With Takeo’s nearly three decades of experience building relationships across Japan’s institutions, combined with the breadth of Blue Owl’s $319 billion platform, we look forward to what Takeo and the team can accomplish on behalf of our clients in Japan."
Ikemori, Representative in Japan and Head of Japan Institutional Capital at Blue Owl, said: "I am delighted to be joining such a dynamic and innovative firm. Over my career, I have had the privilege of working closely with Japan’s leading financial institutions, and I have watched their interest in private markets grow considerably over that time. Blue Owl’s strategies focused on income and capital preservation are well suited to what clients are looking for. I look forward to working with Michael and the broader team to continue to grow our institutional capital business in Japan."
The private equity firm has been expanding its presence in Japan for the last several years. The firm opened its Japan office in 2023, and appointed Nakamura to lead the private wealth business last year.
