Coeur Mining, Inc. (NYSE:CDE) stock is surging on Friday primarily due to a sector-wide rally in precious metals following a weak U.S. jobs report, which drove gold and silver prices sharply higher.

Coeur Mining is a metals producer focused on mining precious minerals in the Americas.

The Nasdaq is up 0.74% while the S&P 500 has gained 0.51%.

Precious Metals Price Action

Gold prices rose to above $4,350 per ounce on Friday, reaching the highest level in two months as lower energy prices and softening labor conditions, according to Trading Economics.

Labor Market Report

Nonfarm payrolls contracted by 23,000 in July, against a consensus estimate of 83,000, according to data published Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. May nonfarm payrolls were revised down to 63,000, while June was revised down to 20,000. Private payrolls held at 30,000, missing the 78,000 estimate. The unemployment rate came in at 4.1%.

CDE Stock: Key Levels and Momentum Indicators

Today’s push has CDE trading about 9% above its 20-day SMA ($15.46) and about 2.7% above its 50-day SMA ($16.42), which often signals improving near-term trend control after a choppy stretch. The bigger-picture trend is still trying to heal, with the stock about 3.8% below the 100-day SMA ($17.52) and about 9.1% below the 200-day SMA ($18.54).

MACD is the cleaner momentum read right now: it’s above its signal line and the histogram is positive, which points to improving upside pressure versus the prior downswing.

The moving-average structure still carries some overhead risk because the 20-day SMA remains below the 50-day SMA, and the 50-day SMA is below the 200-day SMA (a "Death Cross" that occurred in June).

  • Key Resistance: $20 — Round-number area that can act as a natural stall point for rebounds.
  • Key Support: $15 — Nearby round-number zone that sits close to recent trend support (including the 20-day/50-day area).

CDE Stock Price Activity: Coeur Mining shares were up 9.62% at $17.15 at the time of publication on Friday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
