Billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller is shifting his strategy. As his Duquesne Family Office portfolio expanded drastically in the second quarter of 2026, the legendary investor’s moves sent a clear message to Wall Street about overlooking the chipmakers’ hype and buying the infrastructure that powers them.
A $5.2 Billion Portfolio
According to the firm’s latest 13F filings, Duquesne’s total portfolio value surged from roughly $3.37 billion in the first quarter of 2026 to $5.21 billion by the end of the second quarter.
During this massive capital deployment, Druckenmiller broadened his market exposure, expanding his overall holdings from 70 to 95 individual positions. A cornerstone of this expansion was a brand-new 87,100-share position in IREN Ltd. (NASDAQ:IREN), valued at nearly $3.98 million.
Druckenmiller Rotates Within the Chip Trade
Druckenmiller previously admitted he "screwed it up" by exiting his Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) holdings prematurely after seeing “disturbingly heated” signals in the broader tech sector. Now, he is aggressively cutting his exposure to traditional semiconductor manufacturing.
In the second quarter, Duquesne completely dumped its stakes in Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO), Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:INTC), and Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MU).
The firm also fully liquidated positions in chip-adjacent stocks like Lattice Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ:LSCC) and Coherent Corp. (NYSE:COHR), which were largely omitted in initial media reports.
While he did initiate a new 72,900-share stake in Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) and added 43,600 shares of Lam Research Corp. (NASDAQ:LRCX), the overriding trend was a distinct rotation out of legacy chipmakers.
The Data Center Power Play
Instead of focusing solely on chipmakers, Druckenmiller also added exposure to digital-infrastructure and crypto-mining companies that are expanding into AI and high-performance computing.
IREN was not his only data center power play. Alongside this new position, Druckenmiller loaded up on other digital infrastructure operators. He purchased over 4 million shares of Bitdeer Technologies Group (NASDAQ:BTDR) and initiated a 754,800-share position in Riot Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:RIOT).
Furthermore, he quietly added 314,150 shares of Hut 8 Corp. (NASDAQ:HUT)—another critical infrastructure stock that slipped under the radar during early second-quarter reporting.
How Has IREN Performed In 2026?
IREN shares rose 16.65% year-to-date, advanced 130.92% over the last year, and 4.36% over the last six months. It closed 1.56% lower at $44.06 per share on Friday, and it was 3.58% higher in pre-market trading on Monday.
Benzinga’s Edge Stock Rankings indicate that IREN maintains a weak price trend in the short, medium, and long terms, with a poor value score.
