On Friday, William Blair initiated coverage on Tandem Diabetes Care Inc. (NASDAQ:TNDM) and Beta Bionics Inc (NASDAQ:BBNX), noting that both companies are advancing initiatives to play in faster-growing segments of the insulin pump market.

Both companies have the potential to benefit from market expansion of pumps into type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Insulin Pump Innovations and Pipelines

Tandem’s current offerings include the t:slim X2 and the Tandem Mobi, recognized as the smallest durable tubed automated insulin delivery system available.

The company shipped its first device in 2012, and its future pipeline features the Mobi Tubeless patch pump, slated for a late-2026 launch following anticipated regulatory clearance.

Alternatively, Beta Bionics commands a smaller market share but generates strong enthusiasm among medical professionals and patients. The firm produces the iLet Bionic Pancreas, which secured regulatory approval in 2023.

This device utilizes an adaptive closed-loop algorithm requiring minimal user intervention to regulate blood sugar levels.

Financial Outlook and Analyst Perspectives

Analyst Steven Lichtman favors Beta Bionics for its user-friendly algorithm, rapid pharmacy channel expansion, and swift advancement of a tubeless pump. William Blair initiated with a Market Perform rating.

Consequently, the stock trades at 5.3 times its projected 2026 enterprise value-to-sales ratio. Lichtman views this slight premium as justified by the company’s robust near-term sales trajectory.

Conversely, Tandem trades at a discounted 1.8 times its 2026 EV/sales estimate. William Blair initiated with an Outperform rating.

While the analyst projects a slower 13% growth rate for Tandem in 2027 compared to a 15% industry average, the lower valuation multiple adequately offsets this growth lag.

Navigating Future Industry Risks

A looming risk for both manufacturers involves the Medicare competitive bidding program for insulin pumps. Slated for 2028, this initiative could introduce pricing pressures and alter revenue recognition.

However, both businesses proactively counter these threats by shifting toward pharmacy distribution channels and accelerating tubeless pump development.

BBNX/TNDM Stock Price Activity: Beta Bionics shares were down 1.36% at $19.21, and Tandem shares were up 0.84% at $22.76 at the time of publication on Friday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
