Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) stock edged about 0.3% higher in Monday premarket trading as investors weighed the company’s youth-safety settlement costs against a softer broader market backdrop.
S&P 500 futures fell about 0.5% ahead of the opening bell.
Meta recently reached a broad settlement with 29 U.S. states that introduces daily usage limits and nighttime restrictions for teenagers, tighter age verification and expanded parental controls across Facebook and Instagram.
The framework includes up to $17 billion tied to the states’ claims. Meta has described about $18 billion in total payments over 10 years, including a separate $1 billion settlement with Texas.
Settlement Costs Remain In Focus
The agreement adds a sizable financial commitment for Meta while imposing new restrictions on how teenagers use its platforms.
Meta shares nevertheless traded modestly higher in Monday premarket trading despite weakness in S&P 500 futures.
