President Donald Trump scheduled a Wednesday meeting with corporate travel representatives, including leaders from American Airlines, Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAR), MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM) and Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE:CCL), a White House official said. The travel sector brief coincided with a pullback in energy markets, providing relief to fuel-sensitive transport equities.
The administration scheduled meetings with key sector leaders to address industry developments following strong summer activity.
Crude Oil Prices Ease Below $90
According to Trading Economics, crude oil edged down below $90 a barrel on Wednesday, pausing a two-session rally that lifted prices to a six-week high. Traders continued to weigh elevated supply risks stemming from ongoing hostilities in the Middle East against signs that crude supplies were still reaching the market.
Technical Analysis
Even with Wednesday’s pop, American Airlines is still trading 7% below its 20-day SMA, 14.2% below its 50-day SMA, 7.6% below its 100-day SMA, and 4.8% below its 200-day SMA — so the bigger picture remains "rebound inside a softer trend." That overhead moving-average stack is why rallies can feel "heavy" until price starts reclaiming those levels.
The moving-average structure is mixed: the 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA (bearish near-term), but the 50-day SMA remains above the 200-day SMA after the Golden Cross in June, which keeps the longer-term trend from fully breaking down. Zooming out, the stock carved key turning points earlier in the year, including the 52-week low in March and a major peak zone in July (which also marked the 52-week high).
- Key Resistance: $14 — Nearby round-number area that also sits close to the 200-day SMA/EMA zone, where rebounds can stall
- Key Support: $11.50 — Nearby level that lines up as a prior buyer-defense zone above the $10.09 52-week low
AAL Stock Price Activity: American Airlines Group shares were up 1.66% at $13.17 at the time of publication on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
