Trade Desk, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTD) shares are trading lower by about 4% on Friday. The company disclosed a workforce reduction of approximately 15%.
• Trade Desk shares are retreating from recent levels. Why is TTD stock dropping?
This is part of organizational restructuring announced on Sept. 3, 2026. It is aimed at reallocating resources toward key growth opportunities, improving operational efficiency and creating a more focused, agile and scalable organization.
The company says the changes are expected to be substantially completed in the third quarter of 2026.
Trade Desk expects to incur approximately $39 million-$51 million in cash restructuring and related charges for employee severance and benefits, partially offset by a $4 million-$5 million reversal of stock-based compensation.
The company projects the charges to be accrued in the third quarter of 2026.
Recent Earnings Snapshot
Last month, the company reported second-quarter earnings of 34 cents per share, missing the consensus estimate of 40 cents. Second-quarter revenue came in at $715.06 million versus the $751.39 million expected.
Customer retention stayed above 95%. CEO Jeff Green reiterated Trade Desk’s focus on decisioning, measurement and AI.
The company expects third-quarter revenue to exceed $650 million, below the analyst estimate of $805.09 million. The stock fell more than 24% in extended trading following the release.

Technical Setup: Bounce Attempt Below Key Moving Averages
The Trade Desk is trying to stabilize after a steep 12-month drawdown of 71.75%, and the chart still reads as a longer-term downtrend despite recent basing attempts. The stock is trading 41.6% below its 200-day SMA ($25.03) and 23.1% below its 100-day SMA ($19.01), which keeps the bigger-picture trend biased lower.
In the near term, price is 6.5% above the 20-day SMA ($13.72) but 11.9% below the 50-day SMA ($16.58), a setup that often behaves like a "bounce inside a downtrend" until the 50-day is reclaimed. The 20-day SMA remains below the 50-day SMA (bearish), and the 50-day SMA is also below the 200-day SMA (bearish long-term), reinforcing that rallies may still face overhead supply.
RSI is the cleaner momentum read right now: at 49.43, it’s neutral, suggesting the stock isn’t stretched and is more likely chopping than trending hard in either direction. RSI measures how extended recent buying or selling pressure is, and a near-50 reading typically lines up with range-bound trade and quick reversals around key levels.
- Key Support: $13 — Nearby level where buyers previously stepped in, sitting close to the recent lows and the 52-week low zone ($12.83).
