OpenAI is deepening its ties with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (OTC:SSNLF) to co-develop next-generation chips, in a move to advance its enterprise AI services.
“Our joint production and research on the next-generation chips we are developing is one of the areas where we have gained the most recognition and made the most progress with Samsung Electronics,” said Harrison Kim, General Manager of OpenAI Korea, during a press conference in Seoul on Wednesday, Reuters reported.
Kim also disclosed that Samsung is “one of the largest-scale deployments of ChatGPT globally,” with the AI being utilized across various departments such as research and development, marketing, and sales.
He highlighted the growing demand for memory chips to support faster, more advanced computing, underscoring the importance of partnerships with South Korean semiconductor suppliers for OpenAI’s local operations.
Samsung did not immediately respond to Benzinga’s request for comments.
OpenAI, Samsung Explore Data Centers
In October 2025, OpenAI enlisted Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix Inc. (NASDAQ:SKHY) to supply chips and equipment for its Stargate project, strengthening their dominance in advanced memory chips for artificial intelligence.
Samsung SDS, Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries also explored potential partnerships with OpenAI on floating data centers and advanced infrastructure design.
OpenAI Deepens Custom Chip Push
In June, OpenAI and Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO) launched Jalapeño, OpenAI’s first custom Intelligence Processor designed for large language model (LLM) inference. This processor was developed to optimize its design cycle for OpenAI models.
OpenAI is expanding AI applications across chip design, life sciences and finance while exploring outcome-based pricing to boost enterprise adoption, said CFO Sarah Friar at Goldman Sachs’ Communacopia + Technology Conference in San Francisco on Monday, Reuters reported. She also highlighted the company’s use of its own AI models to develop the Jalapeño chip, finalized for production within nine months.
