Shares of GoPro Inc. (NASDAQ:GPRO) are trading slightly lower Friday morning as the stock consolidates following a volatile, influencer-driven surge.

Markiplier Rally Fades as Stock Settles Near Starman Buyout Price

The trading consolidation follows a 120% monthly rally for GPRO stock, initiated after an SEC Schedule 13G filing gained wide market attention on August 31, revealing that YouTube creator Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach accumulated 13.5 million Class A shares, an 8.5% passive stake, making him GoPro’s largest individual shareholder.

The disclosure triggered viral retail buying and a short squeeze that sent shares soaring over 100% in late August, just before GoPro announced on September 1, 2026, a definitive $285 million merger agreement with Starman Optical Inc.

Under the buyout terms, GoPro stockholders will receive $1.14 per share in cash and retain a 10% equity stake in the combined optical-photonics enterprise, with $92 million in debt retired at closing. Adding pre-closing liquidity, GoPro filed on September 8 that it issued a $20 million convertible debenture to Yorkville under a $50 million financing arrangement.
