Shares of SanDisk Corp. (NASDAQ:SNDK) are trading lower Friday afternoon as sector-wide software efficiency concerns weigh on storage and memory equities.
- SanDisk stock is among today’s weakest performers. Why are SNDK shares down?
DeepSeek V4.1 Flash Architecture Triggers Memory Demand Anxieties
The selling pressure across storage and semiconductor makers stems from the release of DeepSeek’s V4.1 Flash model, which demonstrated dramatic hardware efficiency gains over prior generations.
The updated architecture requires just one-quarter of the High Bandwidth Memory capacity of the Flash V4 model and only one-eighth of the solid-state drive storage.
The steep reduction in hardware requirements sparked investor concerns that if rival AI developers and global large language model providers adopt similar algorithmic compression techniques, long-term baseline demand for high-capacity enterprise SSDs and NAND flash memory could slow.
Enterprise SSD Exposure and Physical Supply Deficits Buffer Sell-Off
Despite the sector-wide pullback, market participants note that SanDisk’s enterprise fundamentals remain anchored by broader AI infrastructure needs.
SanDisk continues to operate in a tight physical supply environment for enterprise-grade flash storage, where demand for high-density SSDs powering hyperscale datacenter clusters remains elevated.
While software-level optimizations may reduce per-model hardware footprints over time, the exponential expansion of global training datasets and enterprise AI workloads continues to absorb high-performance NAND capacity.
