Silicon Motion Technology Corporation (NASDAQ:SIMO) stock rose more than 2% in Tuesday’s premarket trading, rebounding after a 16.76% plunge in the previous session.

The stock fell Monday amid a broad technology and semiconductor sell-off. Concerns from leading artificial intelligence executives about the pace and safety of frontier AI development fueled selling across chip and hardware stocks.

The rebound comes despite a softer market backdrop. Nasdaq futures fell 0.13%, while S&P 500 futures slipped 0.16%.

With no major company-specific headline driving Tuesday’s move, the early gain points to bargain hunting after Monday’s sharp sell-off.

Traders are now watching whether buyers can defend nearby support and push Silicon Motion back toward its short-term moving averages.
