Arm Holdings plc (NASDAQ:ARM) stock is trading higher by about 3% on Tuesday, rebounding from a more than 9% drop in the previous session.
The gain comes despite weakness across the broader market. The Nasdaq is down 0.52%, while the S&P 500 has shed 0.48%. The Technology sector is also slightly lower.
Monday’s sell-off followed calls from leaders at major artificial intelligence companies, including Anthropic and OpenAI, to slow the development of advanced AI over safety concerns. The debate raised fears that slower AI development could eventually weigh on demand for chips and data center hardware.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump pushed back against calls to slow AI development. He dismissed fears about AI, described AI and data centers as important economic drivers, and stressed the need to compete with China.
The comments offered a counterpoint to recent AI safety warnings from industry leaders. That debate remains important for Arm and other chip companies because any slowdown in AI investment could affect future semiconductor and data center demand.
Technical Analysis
Arm remains below its shorter-term moving averages. The stock is 1.2% below its 20-day simple moving average of $247.86 and 7.3% below its 50-day SMA of $264.
However, Arm remains 19.2% above its 200-day SMA of $205.40. That keeps its longer-term uptrend intact despite recent volatility.
Arm’s relative strength index stands at 45.07. The neutral reading suggests the stock is neither overbought nor oversold.
The technical setup remains mixed. The 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA, signaling near-term weakness. However, the 50-day SMA remains above the 200-day SMA following an April golden cross.
Traders may watch $267.50 as resistance and $233.50 as support.
