Sandisk Corp. (NASDAQ:SNDK) stock rose more than 6% Friday, sharply outperforming the broader technology sector as AI-driven memory demand, higher industry prices and tight supply supported memory stocks.
The Nasdaq gained 0.06%, while the S&P 500 fell 0.34%.
AI infrastructure continues to consume more memory, tightening industry supply. NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) CFO Colette Kress recently cited "extreme pricing conditions in memory," saying increases have exceeded expectations and could rise further next year.
Meanwhile, TechInsights expects memory-market tightness to intensify through at least the end of 2027. The firm expects DRAM prices to rise more than 200% year over year, with meaningful new supply potentially not arriving until late 2027 or early 2028.
The backdrop is supporting memory names despite weak market breadth. Only two of the 11 S&P 500 sectors were higher Friday.
