Shares of On Holding AG (NYSE:ONON) are trading marginally higher Friday morning, holding onto an early pre-market surge as investors react to a major strategic disruption in the global sportswear market.
The Swiss athletic brand announced earlier in the day that it has officially signed French football star Kylian Mbappé, ending his 20-year relationship with Nike and marking On’s entry into the global football category.
Mbappé and Thierry Henry Spearhead Football Category Expansion
According to the company’s Friday announcement, Mbappé will serve as a marquee brand ambassador and collaborate directly with On’s product engineering teams in Zurich. The partnership focuses on testing and refining custom football cleats built with the company’s proprietary LightSpray technology, a continuous-filament robotic spraying process designed to create ultra-lightweight, flexible footwear that mimics a second skin.
To further accelerate its category disruption, On also confirmed that French football legend Thierry Henry has officially joined the company as Director of Football, having quietly advised on product strategy since late 2025. Additionally, Swiss international and FC Barcelona player Sydney Schertenleib has expanded her existing ambassador role to assist in developing products tailored specifically for the women’s game.
