Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO) on Monday outlined a broad strategic roadmap targeting sustained global expansion during its Capital Markets Day 2026 presentation.

The company reported second-quarter sales of 78.488  billion Danish kroner, up 2% year over year (+3% at constant currency).

However, the sales were down 19% from the first-quarter sales of 96.823 billion Danish kroner.

Strategy And Long-Term Growth Ambitions

The company highlighted ambitious clinical goals, including plans to introduce more than five multi-blockbuster medications by 2030, and a disciplined bolt-on business development strategy.

Through these key releases, the pharmaceutical company aims to generate over 150 billion Danish kroner (around $23.06 billion) in risk-adjusted sales from its pipeline by 2035.

Management projects a 2026 to 2030 revenue compound annual growth rate matching industry peers, alongside expanding global treatment to over 60 million patients.

Operational Reset And Pipeline Diversification

Novo Nordisk implemented an organizational transformation that reduced its workforce by around 13,000 to roughly 66,000 full-time employees.

This structural shift unlocked over 10 billion Danish kroner in operational savings, which the firm redirected into commercial execution and advanced research programs.

On the commercial front, Novo Nordisk plans to expand manufacturing capacity ten-fold to serve more obesity patients with oral GLP-1 options.

Demand for weight loss drugs remains robust, with the Wegovy pill reaching over 7 million cumulative United States prescriptions since its initial release.

To navigate semaglutide’s upcoming loss of exclusivity, the organization will introduce new pipeline treatments annually through 2030. Scheduled launches include CagriSema in 2027, cagrilintide in 2028, and zenagamtide in 2029.

Furthermore, Novo Nordisk aims to build growth engines across cardiovascular, liver, and blood disorders to secure long-term revenue streams.

Head-To-Head Superiority

On Monday, Novo Nordisk also unveiled phase 3 trial results for its investigational once-weekly treatment, CagriSema, positioning it as a potent contender in weight management and type 2 diabetes care.

The company shared these findings during its Capital Markets Day investor briefing, emphasizing the drug’s superior performance over Eli Lilly and Co.’s (NYSE:LLY) tirzepatide.

During the REIMAGINE 5 trial, the combination drug—blending cagrilintide and semaglutide—outperformed tirzepatide.

Patients taking a 1.0 mg/1.0 mg dose of CagriSema achieved an estimated average weight loss of 12.4%, beating the 9.1% reduction seen with a 5 mg dose of tirzepatide.

Additionally, the investigational treatment confirmed a non-inferior 1.71% reduction in HbA1c levels compared to tirzepatide’s 1.67%.

Striking Placebo Comparisons

The REDEFINE 9 trial showed that CagriSema delivered a 21.0% weight reduction against a mere 2.0% for the placebo, meeting its primary superiority endpoint.

The treatment also improved fasting lipid profiles, waist-to-height ratios, and systolic blood pressure.

NVO Price Action: Novo Nordisk shares were down 5.00% at $41.08 during premarket trading on Monday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
