U.S. stocks traded higher this morning, with the Dow Jones index gaining over 200 points on Monday.

Following the market opening Monday, the Dow traded up 0.50% to 51,940.52 while the NASDAQ climbed 0.82% to 26,740.27. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.59% to 7,695.90.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Communication services shares jumped by 2% on Monday.

In trading on Monday, energy stocks fell by 1%.

Top Headline

The Chicago Fed National Activity Index fell to -0.04 in August versus a revised reading of +0.08 in the previous month.

Equities Trading UP

  • Twin Vee PowerCats Co (NASDAQ:VEEE) shares were also up, gaining 93% to $16.32.

  • IM Cannabis Corp (NASDAQ:IMCC) shares dropped 33% to $2.84.
  • Shares of Moleculin Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:MBRX) were down 29% to $0.55.
  • Research Frontiers Inc (NASDAQ:REFR) was down, falling 27% to $0.47.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded down 3.2% to $97.06 while gold traded down 0.6% at $4,397.00.

Silver traded down 0.1% to $67.145 on Monday, while copper rose 1.9% to $6.8185.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 climbed 1.2%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 Index rose 1.2%, London’s FTSE 100 gained 1%, Germany’s DAX gained 1.2%, while France’s CAC 40 surged 1%.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed higher on Monday, with Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rising 1.18%, China’s Shanghai Composite rising 0.97% and India’s BSE Sensex gaining 0.76%.

Economics
