WDC Gains With Broader Tech Strength

The Technology sector climbed 1.7%, while the S&P 500 gained 0.9%.

Western Digital’s move came amid broader strength in large-cap technology stocks rather than a distinct company-specific catalyst, with storage and data-center demand attracting renewed attention.

AI Growth Drives Storage Demand

At the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, SanDisk Corp. (NASDAQ:SNDK) executives said AI inference is encountering a "memory wall."

They said data centers now account for more than half of NAND flash demand, while larger AI models require longer context windows and more scalable storage.

Sandisk also said it signed eight strategic agreements, some lasting as long as five years, to provide customers with more predictable supply and improve its own demand visibility.

WDC Maintains Longer-Term Uptrend

Western Digital has gained 294.76% over the past 12 months, though its intermediate trend has weakened.

The stock trades 7.5% below its 50-day simple moving average and 13.5% below its 100-day SMA. However, it remains 14.4% above its 200-day SMA, keeping the longer-term trend constructive despite recent consolidation.
