American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ:AAL) stock is surging on Tuesday as falling crude oil prices ease market concerns over jet fuel expenses.
Nasdaq futures are down 0.06% while S&P 500 futures have gained 0.09%.
The drop in fuel costs follows a fifth consecutive session of declining oil prices. West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell to around $91 a barrel, while Brent crude futures dropped below $99 a barrel, according to Trading Economics.

The movement in energy markets comes as the U.S. President Donald Trump prepares to address the United Nations General Assembly today.
Lower crude prices directly impact the airline sector by reducing operational expenses, as jet fuel accounts for a significant portion of carrier overhead.

Technical Analysis
At $13.89, AAL is trading 5.3% above its 20-day SMA ($13.21), but it remains 3.1% below its 50-day SMA ($14.35) and 4% below its 100-day SMA ($14.48), which keeps the intermediate trend from turning cleanly bullish. The stock is also sitting essentially on its 200-day SMA ($13.91), making this zone a "line in the sand" for longer-term trend followers.
RSI is the cleaner momentum read right now: at 49.04, it’s neutral, which fits a market that’s been more range-bound than trending. In plain terms, RSI helps gauge whether buying or selling has become stretched; near 50 usually signals neither side has clear control.
The moving-average structure is mixed: the 20-day SMA is below the 50-day SMA (a bearish near-term alignment), but the golden cross from June (50-day above 200-day) is still a constructive longer-term backdrop. Traders will also remember the death cross in March and the swing low in September, which helps explain why rallies have tended to meet supply as price approaches the mid-$14s.
- Key Resistance: $15.50 — a nearby pivot/round-number area above the 50-day and 100-day SMAs where rebounds can stall
- Key Support: $13 — a round-number level just below current price that lines up with a recent demand zone and sits near the stock’s longer-term average area
AAL Price Action: American Airlines Group shares were up 2.73% at $13.94 during premarket trading on Tuesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
