Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) used Meta Connect 2026 to unveil a $1,299 VR glasses device, expand its AI glasses lineup and bring its Muse personal AI agent to more products, but market watchers were divided over whether the announcements could extend the stock’s recent rally.

Gene Munster Says Meta Needed More Muse Data

Deepwater Asset Management managing partner Gene Munster said he expected Meta shares to be "flat to down" following Mark Zuckerberg’s keynote, pointing to a lack of concrete information about Muse adoption.

Meta shares slipped 1.36 in after-hours trading, according to Benzinga Pro.

In a video posted on social media, Munster said the company did not provide the "juicy nuggets" he was looking for on how the AI agent is performing.

Munster said the more important takeaway was Zuckerberg’s long-term vision for Muse, which he described as becoming the "soul" of Meta.

He argued that Meta is moving away from recommendation systems driven primarily by users’ past behavior toward AI agents that can proactively guide what people see, buy and do.

"We didn’t get much on Muse adoption. What we got that was important is Zuck’s vision that all that matters to the company long term is Muse. Bad news for $GOOG," he wrote.

Meta launched Muse on Sept. 8 and the app has quickly gained traction. Muse had surpassed 2.5 million downloads, while Meta has positioned it as a personal AI agent capable of handling tasks such as shopping, travel and email.

Mark Gurman Calls Meta VR Glasses ‘Incredible’

Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman described the $1,299 device as "incredible" and said it comes surprisingly close to Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) Vision Pro experience while weighing about one-sixth as much and costing less than half as much.

Meta says the glasses weigh about 100 grams because computing, battery and storage are housed in a separate pocketable device connected to the glasses. The company plans to launch them in spring 2027.

Gurman also highlighted Meta’s virtual keyboard, saying the tabletop-based system "blows the Vision Pro keyboard out of the water."

Analysts Split on Meta’s AI And Wearables Strategy

Futurum Equities chief market strategist Shay Boloor also highlighted the 100-gram design. "Bigger shift is that Muse becomes the interface because Zuck says you can ‘just talk to it’ while any flat surface can become a keyboard," he wrote.

The Future Fund managing partner Gary Black took a more bullish view of Muse’s potential to become a major revenue driver. Black said Meta could benefit as investors recognize Muse’s potential to help users "shop, pay bills, and manage their lives."

Black said this while citing a Bloomberg Opinion article on Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) blocking Muse from accessing its store.

According to Benzinga Edge Stock Rankings, Meta ranks in the 79th percentile for Growth, with its shares showing positive short-, medium- and long-term price trends.
