It’s been a busy week for Qualcomm Inc (NASDAQ:QCOM), which is about to conclude its three-day Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii. The event highlighted new capabilities, expanded partnerships and a renewed patent license with Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL).
Qualcomm and Apple
On Thursday morning, Qualcomm announced that it has renewed its global patent license agreement with Apple, effective April 1, 2027. The news comes as Qualcomm expands beyond smartphones into more areas to diversify.
"We are pleased to extend the Apple license agreement," Qualcomm Technology Licensing Executive Vice President and General Manager John Han said.
Snapdragon Summit News
The week saw Qualcomm highlight how its Snapdragon processor is being used by partners for the personal AI revolution.
"Snapdragon is more than the processor for the agentic age. It is the platform that brings the ‘personal’ to personal AI," Qualcomm Senior Vice President and General Manager XR, Wearables and Personal AI Ziad Asghar said.
Qualcomm highlighted the new Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2, a premium audio platform purposefully built for personal AI.
"We envision that these devices will give you superpowers. Superpowers that no other device can enable," Asghar said of multiple new Qualcomm items shown off at the event.
To kick off the Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said that personal devices will be more than just operating apps, as they will fulfill the intents and requests of each user.
"We are just now at the beginning of the agentic age and Snapdragon is the platform built for it," Amon said.
Amon said, "The best AI is not an AI that is going to ask more of you. It does more for you. It is your own AI."
Amon highlighted the growing need of energy for smartphones as they do more, comparing this to the early problems of data centers.
"That technology that we designed for the data center is now scaled all the way into the smartphone."
Working with Partners
Partner Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) showed off two new Surface PCs powered by Snapdragon at the event. Lenovo also showed a Snapdragon powered PC, showing the strength of the processor.
Qualcomm said nine different smartphone companies have committed to using the company’s new chipsets, including Motorola and Xiaomi.
Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL) was present at the event to highlight the new Google laptops powers by Snapdragon that put Gemini capabilities in the forefront.
