XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) consolidates near $1.51 Thursday as Trump and Xi Jinping meet, with crypto commentator Cheeky Crypto arguing history says the summit likely won’t move the needle.
Why Past Summits Haven’t Helped XRP
The analyst laid out two prior cases where positive US-China outcomes failed to lift XRP:
- October 30, 2025 Trump-Xi meeting — XRP traded around $2.60 heading in. President Donald Trump announced a roughly 10-point tariff cut, yet XRP fell to $2.43 by the next day. The Fed also cut rates that same week, muddying the picture, but good news still didn’t push price up.
- May 2026 Beijing trip — XRP traded around $1.43 before Trump’s visit. Despite language about “constructive strategic stability” and new agricultural purchase deals, XRP never broke its $1.30 to $1.45 range. By late July, it had slid to around $1.08.
Why the Summit Itself Isn’t the Real Driver
Cheeky Crypto argues the summit agenda doesn’t touch XRP at all, with no mention of the XRP Ledger, Ripple, or ETFs on the table.
Instead, broad risk appetite drives the connection, with Bitcoin moving first and XRP typically following harder in both directions.
Timing makes it worse: markets price in summit outcomes weeks ahead, so much of the good news already sits in the price by the time leaders shake hands, setting up a classic sell-the-news reaction.
That risk grows here since XRP jumped 8% on September 18 to $1.40 on trade-talk optimism, even as US spot XRP ETFs added less than $10 million over that stretch.
The analyst reads that as spot buyers riding risk-on sentiment rather than real fund flows, a mood-driven rally that can reverse just as fast as it built.
What Actually Matters More Than the Summit
Cheeky Crypto points to bigger near-term catalysts than any White House handshake:
- This week’s Fed speeches — a full stack of commentary from policymakers
- Friday’s University of Michigan consumer sentiment reading
- September 30 PCE inflation report — the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge
On the XRP side specifically, an amendment activation, the Evernorth vote, and an October 1 escrow release all carry more weight than today’s meeting.
