Marvell Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MRVL) stock rose about 4% Tuesday, outperforming the broader technology sector as investors weighed the chipmaker’s expanding AI opportunity and looked ahead to its Oct. 6 analyst day.
The Nasdaq gained 0.18%, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.06%. Marvell also outpaced the Technology sector’s 0.33% gain.
Trading volume topped 5 million shares at the time of publication, compared with its three-month average daily volume of about 24 million.
BofA Sees Larger AI Opportunity
Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya believes Marvell may be underestimating its AI opportunity as demand grows for custom chips, networking and related components.
Arya estimates the custom AI chip and related components market could reach $300 billion by 2030.
BofA estimates Marvell could capture about $30 billion of a projected $60 billion to $65 billion XPU attach market by 2030. Arya reiterated a Buy rating and $365 price target.
Piper Sandler also expects rising AI infrastructure demand to support Marvell’s growth. The firm initiated coverage with an Overweight rating and $270 price target, citing stronger compute demand and hyperscaler spending.
Analyst Day Becomes Next Catalyst
Investors will next focus on Marvell’s Oct. 6 analyst day, where the company is expected to provide updates on its market opportunity, margins and earnings outlook.
ETFs Add Another Trading Consideration
The State Street SPDR NYSE Technology ETF (NYSE:XNTK) holds a 6.14% weighting in Marvell, while the First Trust Nasdaq Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:FTXL) holds 7.50% and the YieldMax Semiconductor Portfolio Option Income ETF (NYSE:CHPY) holds 5.43%.
Significant inflows or outflows from these funds can translate into buying or selling of Marvell shares.
