Tech analyst Dan Ives calls the upcoming Anthropic initial public offering (IPO) a watershed event that could benefit the entire technology sector.
With details of Anthropic’s IPO and its risk factors leaking Monday, questions are surrounding the company’s timing, risks, and future plans.
When asked about concerns over customer concentration during a Bloomberg interview, Ives dismissed the issue. He noted that investors understand early-stage AI leaders often start with a tight group of large clients before scaling as sector spending expands into the trillions.
"We’re still in the third inning of the AI revolution," Ives told Bloomberg.
In an interview with Yahoo! Finance, Ives stressed Anthropic’s importance to the sector.
“I think Anthropic is the heart and lungs of the AI revolution,” Ives told Yahoo! Finance. “And that goes for OpenAI as well.”
Asked about safety and the risk that Anthropic could wipe out humanity, Ives said things can’t slow down. If they do, he argues, China wins.
"The Genie’s already out of the bottle,” he added. “[We] can’t get to the top floor and then pull the ladder up," Ives told Bloomberg.
Thanks to AI, the U.S. is technologically ahead of China for the first time in 30 years, he argues.
Balancing Investor Optimism With Public Backlash
In comments to Yahoo! Finance, Ives said an Anthropic IPO is "bullish for the broader tech trade," as it could mean "more transparency" for the AI sector.
Comparing current AI investments to building the Las Vegas strip in 1955, Ives stressed that scaling physical AI and data center infrastructure requires heavy up-front spending—and investors will ultimately expect to see returns.
While Wall Street looks for profits, main street skepticism is mounting: AI is becoming increasingly unpopular in the U.S., with concerns about job losses, education, and broader risks to humanity making it an emerging issue in the 2026 midterm elections.
A recent Pew Research Center poll found that 60% of Americans are uncomfortable with a new data center being built in their community, underscoring growing resistance to the infrastructure behind the AI boom.
