Shares of enterprise software provider ServiceNow Inc. (NYSE:NOW) are trading higher Wednesday, joining a broader relief bid across the software sector following reports of a Federal Trade Commission probe into frontier AI labs alongside company-specific operational milestones. Here’s what investors need to know.

Industry Relief Bid and AI Monetization

Software stocks bounced Wednesday as investors digested news that the FTC launched a sweeping investigation into frontier AI developers, including OpenAI and Anthropic, over agentic AI safety and consumer protection concerns. Regulatory friction and compliance scrutiny on standalone AI labs could ease fears that autonomous AI agents will rapidly displace established enterprise Software-as-a-Service platforms.

Wednesday’s move comes on the heels of positive analyst momentum. On Sept. 21, Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Thomas Blakey raised his price target on ServiceNow to $174 from $141 with an Overweight rating. Blakey highlighted strong channel checks showing enterprise clients moving up service tiers to access expanded “Now Assist” packs, supporting management’s target to generate 30% of annual contract value from AI solutions by 2030.

Ecosystem Expansion, Recognition and Policy Role

ServiceNow continued to broaden its platform integrations throughout the month. On Sept. 22, the company partnered with Xapien to embed AI-native third-party risk management into its workflows, followed by a Sept. 29 agreement with Reco to enhance AI agent security visibility. Additionally, earlier Wednesday, ServiceNow was awarded the “Scale Without Limits” title during the inaugural Cribl GOAT Customer Awards.

Reinforcing its executive presence in national AI governance, ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott attended a White House AI summit on Sept. 29 hosted by President Donald Trump. McDermott joined leaders from Amazon, Palantir and xAI in signing the White House Accord on “Super Intelligence,” establishing voluntary safety mechanisms and security frameworks for advanced AI deployments.
