Pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE:LLY) reported positive data from two late-stage clinical trials, showcasing substantial progress in treatments for both atopic dermatitis and weight management in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Retatrutide Shows Massive Weight Loss Results
The drug manufacturer on Tuesday shared detailed findings from its Phase 3 TRIUMPH-2 study for retatrutide, a first-in-class triple hormone receptor agonist targeting GIP, GLP-1, and glucagon.
Over 80 weeks, patients taking the 12-milligram dose shed an average of 49.6 pounds, representing a 20.8% weight reduction.
Participants with a baseline body mass index of 35 or greater lost even more, dropping an average of 60.8 pounds.
Nearly 60% of individuals on the highest dose no longer met the clinical criteria for obesity by the trial’s conclusion.
The experimental treatment also improved blood sugar levels, reducing A1C by up to 1.6%. Up to 40% of users achieved normal blood sugar ranges below 5.7%.
Additionally, retatrutide lowered cardiovascular risk factors, including substantial drops in triglycerides, systolic blood pressure, and waist circumference.
The company intends to file a Biologics License Application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration during the first quarter of 2027.
EBGLYSS Clears Atopic Dermatitis
The Zepbound and Foundayo maker on Wednesday revealed that its EBGLYSS monotherapy achieved both primary and secondary goals at Week 16 in the Phase 3b ADtouch trial.
The drug rapidly improved skin clarity, pain, and itching for adolescents and adults suffering from moderate-to-severe hand and foot atopic dermatitis.
More than 50% of participants saw clear or nearly clear skin by the 16-week mark, with noticeable improvements emerging within a month. Furthermore, patients experienced significant itch relief after just two weeks.
Relying on a newly validated satisfaction scale, nearly eight out of 10 treated individuals reported feeling satisfied or very satisfied regarding their hand skin clearance.
