Accenture’s Strong Quarter Lifts Software and IT Stocks
Accenture’s Plc (NYSE:ACN) fiscal fourth quarter cleared the bar Wall Street had set. Per-share profit landed at $3.29, outpacing the $3.18 analysts had modeled. Sales climbed 6% from a year earlier to reach $18.70 billion, well past the $18.03 billion consensus. New business signings grew 4% year-over-year to $22.2 billion. CEO Julie Sweet pointed to a standout detail behind those numbers: 141 separate client contracts worth $100 million or more, a new quarterly high for the company.
The company’s forward outlook added to the optimism. Accenture now sees fiscal 2027 revenue landing between $76.43 billion and $78.65 billion, edging past the $76.41 billion Wall Street had expected. Adjusted profit guidance of $14.39 to $14.81 per share came in close to the $14.63 consensus. Accenture also committed to handing shareholders at least $9.5 billion next fiscal year.
Why Unity Is Moving Higher Alongside Accenture
Accenture’s numbers seem to be calming broader fears that AI could gut traditional software and technology-services companies. Those fears had pressured Accenture’s own stock for most of the year. Now that a major industry bellwether has delivered a strong quarter and lifted its guidance, that relief appears to be spreading.
Traders seem willing to extend some of that improved mood to other software names, Unity included, even though Unity’s business looks quite different from Accenture’s consulting-heavy model.
Unity Also Faces an Unrelated Legal Dispute With AppLovin
Separately, and unrelated to today’s gain, Unity remains locked in a legal fight with rival AppLovin Corp. (NASDAQ:APP). AppLovin filed for a temporary restraining order this week, accusing Unity’s Ad Quality software of improperly collecting data tied to AppLovin’s ads and feeding it into models used to compete against AppLovin in ad auctions, claims Unity disputes, Digiday reported.
A Unity spokesperson called the lawsuit an attempt by a larger rival to use litigation against growing competition, while AppLovin has also initiated a separate arbitration case alleging breach of contract and trade-secret misappropriation. Neither side’s claims have been resolved, and the dispute appears to have no bearing on Unity’s move higher today.
