U.S. stocks traded higher midway through trading, with the Nasdaq Composite gaining over 1% on Friday.
The Dow traded up 0.45% to 51,157.95 while the NASDAQ jumped 1.27% to 27,212.06. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.79% to 7,726.77.
Leading and Lagging Sectors
Consumer discretionary shares jumped by 1.4% on Friday.
In trading on Friday, health care stocks fell by 0.3%.

U.S. factory orders rose by 0.1% month over month in August, versus a revised 0.8% gain in July.
Equities Trading UP
- Alpha Modus Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:AMOD) shares shot up 213% to $3.66 after the company said it closed a bitcoin-funded private placement and regained Nasdaq listing compliance.
- Shares of Synaptics Inc (NASDAQ:SYNA) got a boost, surging 14% to $120.75 after the company announced it will be acquired by onsemi for $123 per share under the revised agreement.
- Applied Digital Corp (NASDAQ:APLD) shares were also up, gaining 8% to $26.18 after the company announced it brought an additional 75 MW of AI infrastructure online at its Polaris Forge 1 campus.
Equities Trading DOWN
- Integra Lifesciences Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:IART) shares dipped 16% to $13.48 after the company announced it anticipates that flooding will disrupt third-quarter revenue. The company narrowed its FY26 adjusted EPS guidance and cut its FY26 revenue.
- Shares of Seagate Technology Holdings PLC (NASDAQ:STX) were down 14% to $810.25 following reports that Toshiba plans to double production capacity for hard disk drives used in artificial intelligence data centers by fiscal 2027.
- Western Digital Corp (NASDAQ:WDC) was down, falling 13% to $402.59. Shares of memory and storage-related companies traded lower following reports suggesting Toshiba plans to double production capacity for hard disk drives used in AI data centers, raising industry competition that impacts profit margins.
Commodities
In commodity news, oil traded down 1.5% to $91.48 while gold traded down 0.8% at $4,167.90.
Silver traded down 1.3% to $60.365 on Friday, while copper rose 0.2% to $6.5490.
Euro zone
European shares were higher today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 jumped 0.9%, while Spain’s IBEX 35 Index rose 0.6%, London’s FTSE 100 rose 0.5%, Germany’s DAX climbed 1.3%, while France’s CAC 40 gained 1%.
Asia Pacific Markets
Asian markets closed lower on Friday, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 falling 0.94% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index dipping 2.6%.
Economics
- The U.S. economy added 29,000 nonfarm payrolls in September, well below the 90,000 economists had expected, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday.
- The unemployment rate came in at 4.2%, above the 4.1% consensus.
- Average hourly earnings rose 0.1% month over month, versus 0.3% expected, and 3% year over year, versus 3.2% expected.
- U.S. factory orders rose by 0.1% month over month in August, versus a revised 0.8% gain in July.
