Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) beat analyst estimates for third-quarter deliveries, posting one of its highest quarterly totals since the expiration of U.S. federal EV tax credits.

Here’s a look at how Tesla’s production and deliveries have grown over the years and, in some cases, declined.

Tesla Q3 Deliveries

In the third quarter, Tesla delivered 486,532 total vehicles, down from the record 497,099 delivered in last year’s third quarter. The total beat an estimate of 456,896 vehicles.

Of the delivery total, Tesla reported 478,237 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, along with 8,295 other vehicles, including the Cybertruck.

Tesla produced 464,391 vehicles in the quarter.

The quarter saw strong demand from many parts of the world and may have benefited from higher gas prices in the United States. With the expiration of federal tax credits, Tesla’s U.S. sales could decline in future quarters, making international demand even more crucial than usual.

Key Takeaways

For years, Tesla has consistently grown production and deliveries. The COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns, and factory restrictions reduced production.

The electric vehicle company delivered 1,808,581 vehicles in 2023, up 38% year over year. The company’s Model Y vehicle became the bestselling vehicle globally, a first for Tesla and the electric vehicle sector.

In 2024, vehicle deliveries fell to an annual total of 1.79 million, which marked Tesla’s first annual delivery decline in company history.

At the end of 2024, Tesla said it had the Cybercab in development, the Tesla Semi in pilot production and the Roadster in development.

In 2026, robotaxis dominate headlines for Tesla as the company bets more aggressively on its autonomous vehicles.

Once known as the EV leader, Tesla is quickly becoming a story more about autonomous vehicles, AI, and humanoid robots.

Future quarterly delivery results could see lower figures as the company shifts its focus to other areas. Someday the figures could also include the number of Cybercabs sold for customer fleets and the number of Optimus humanoid robots sold.
