Bluejay Diagnostics Inc. (NASDAQ:BJDX), through its Symphony near-patient diagnostic platform, on Tuesday revealed foundational clinical data from its SYMON-II validation trial.
The company utilizes its Symphony near-patient diagnostic system to analyze interleukin-6 (IL-6).
Researchers investigate this biomarker to determine its connection with 28-day mortality risk among critically ill individuals suffering from sepsis and septic shock.
Sepsis occurs when a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection causes a significant response from the body’s immune system.
Septic shock is the most severe form in which the infection causes low blood pressure, resulting in damage to multiple organs.
Evaluating Patient Demographics And Illness Severity
The preliminary SYMON-II review features 777 eligible patients. This group contains 637 individuals who survived past 28 days and 140 who did not, reflecting an approximate 18% overall mortality rate.
The participants represent a wide range of geographical locations, ethnicities, and disease severities. Notably, 39.5% fulfilled the Sepsis-3 requirements for septic shock.
Clinical details from the trial reveal a massive disease burden across the group. Medical professionals documented bacterial infections in 84% of the participants.
Additionally, 32.4% returned a positive blood culture. Overall, doctors considered an underlying infection highly likely or likely in 86.5% of the total study population.
The Critical Need For Rapid Sepsis Testing
Patients who passed away within the 28-day window exhibited higher baseline illness severity upon evaluation. Doctors found septic shock present in 56.4% of the deceased cohort, compared to 35.8% of the surviving group.
Researchers continue to process clinical samples and evaluate how IL-6 measurements correlate with mortality and other health parameters.
Conclusions rely upon completing all scheduled analyses.
In September, Bluejay Diagnostics announced a distribution, co-marketing, and strategic partnership to support the introduction of Bluejay’s products into the U.S. federal healthcare market following applicable U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance or other required regulatory authorization.
BJDX Price Action: Bluejay Diagnostics shares were up 3.13% at $0.78 during premarket trading on Tuesday. The stock is trading near its 52-week low of $0.75, according to Benzinga Pro data.
