AppLovin Corporation (NASDAQ:APP) is navigating renewed legal and competitive pressure as investors weigh regulatory scrutiny, weaker risk appetite and mixed views on the company’s growth outlook.

The stock fell nearly 2% Thursday as growth-oriented stocks weakened. The Nasdaq declined 0.65%, while the S&P 500 fell 0.34%.

The stock has lost almost 60% in 2026 after missing revenue estimates and analyst skepticism.

San Diego Lawsuit Adds Fresh Scrutiny

AppLovin is facing new legal pressure after San Diego County sued the company over allegations that it bypassed parental controls and collected sensitive data from children’s devices to serve targeted ads, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.

AppLovin says its policies prohibit collecting children’s data or targeting children with advertising.

The lawsuit adds another layer of scrutiny around the company’s advertising practices.

SEC Probe Ended Without Enforcement Action

The Securities and Exchange Commission also investigated AppLovin’s advertising practices last year.

CFO Matt Stumpf said in August that the agency closed the investigation without recommending enforcement action.

Needham Sees Long-Term Advertiser Potential

Needham maintained a Buy rating and $475 price forecast on Tuesday, highlighting the addition of three higher-quality advertisers: Steve Madden, Quince and Thorne.

The firm said those advertisers are unlikely to materially affect near-term results but could increase spending on AppLovin’s platform over time.

Cramer Flags Competitive Pressure

CNBC’s Jim Cramer took a more cautious stance in September, saying competition from larger players is weighing on the stock.

"I prefer you to sell half now and sell half on a bounce," Cramer said.

ETF Exposure Adds Trading Sensitivity

AppLovin carries a 3.31% weight in the Baillie Gifford Long Term Global Growth ETF (NASDAQ:BGGG) and a 3.82% weight in the VictoryShares NASDAQ Next 50 ETF (NASDAQ:QQQN).

Significant inflows or outflows from funds with sizable AppLovin positions can translate into corresponding buying or selling pressure on the stock.

APP Price Action
