Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) stock surged on Wednesday following bullish long-term growth projections delivered by CFO Jean Hu. Speaking at Citi’s 2026 Global TMT Conference on Tuesday, Hu outlined an expanding push into artificial intelligence. The Nasdaq is down 0.05% while the S&P 500 has shed 0.30%, even as the technology sector is up 0.27%.
Massive Opportunity In Data Center Market
AMD stated its AI-related opportunity now reaches $2 trillion by 2030, reflecting faster adoption across computing markets. Executives described strong demand across GPUs, server CPUs, and system-level AI products. The company expects its data center business to double in 2027, reaching about $70 billion in sales.
While demand remains high, executives also warned that supply constraints persist. Despite these factors, AMD continues to push hardware deployments, having backed a $300 million loan for AI infrastructure startup Crusoe.
Regulatory Oversight Debate
In broader industry developments, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) argued on Tuesday on X that “81% of Americans believe Congress isn’t doing enough to regulate AI.” Sanders noted, “The AI industry is spending over $300 million against candidates who want to regulate AI.” Meanwhile, former White House AI adviser Sriram Krishnan stated the Trump administration will not create a centralized AI licensing agency.
Technical Analysis
From a trend perspective, AMD is still in a strong longer-term uptrend: it’s trading 51.6% above its 200-day SMA ($343.86), and it’s also above its 20-day, 50-day, and 100-day averages. That said, the 20-day SMA remains below the 50-day SMA (a bearish short-term crossover), which tells you the stock is still working through the digestion phase after the prior run.
- Key Resistance: $530 — a nearby round-number area where rebounds can stall, especially with price already extended above the 20-day and 50-day averages
- Key Support: $463 — a prior demand zone that sits below the current cluster of short-term moving averages and lines up with a recent pivot area
AMD Stock Price Activity: Advanced Micro Devices shares were up 3.65% at $524.22 on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
