Connect Biopharma Reports Significant Drop In Treatment Failure With New COPD Therapy

Connect Biopharma Holdings Limited (NASDAQ:CNTB) recently shared positive topline results from its global Phase 2 study.

The clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company revealed that rademikibart, its next-generation anti-interleukin-4-receptor alpha (IL-4Rα) antibody, demonstrated significant efficacy as an add-on treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients with type 2 inflammation.

Phase 2 Seabreeze STAT COPD Study Details

The trial enrolled 159 participants worldwide. Each patient had an eosinophil count of at least 300 cells/μL and a history of acute COPD exacerbations. Researchers administered either a single subcutaneous dose of rademikibart or a placebo alongside standard care.

The study primarily measured treatment failure within 28 days. This metric included death, hospital readmissions, emergency department visits for worsening symptoms, or the need for intensified pharmacologic care.

Secondary endpoints assessed changes in clinical respiratory symptoms, post-bronchodilator FEV1, and adverse event incidence over an eight-week period.

Key Efficacy And Safety Results

Rademikibart slashed the treatment failure rate by 81% through the fourth week when compared to the placebo. Furthermore, the therapy reduced new moderate to severe COPD exacerbations by 85%.

Notably, the drug eliminated new hospital admissions and emergency department visits for new exacerbations, achieving a 100% reduction.

Patients receiving the antibody also required fewer rescue inhalers between the second and seventh weeks.

At Week 4, participants showed a clinically meaningful 70 mL improvement in forced expiratory volume (FEV1) compared to the placebo group.

Safety data indicated that patients tolerated the treatment well. Researchers observed no new safety signals through the end of the study.

The safety profile remained comparable to the placebo, with the rademikibart group reporting fewer adverse and serious adverse events overall.

CNTB Price Action: Connect Biopharma shares were up 25.00% at $1.24 at the time of publication on Wednesday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
